Toyota has announced a recall of more than 43,000 Sequoia hybrid SUVs due to a potential defect in the towbar cover that could pose a hazard on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has confirmed that a design feature of the towbar cover, which is secured by clips to the rear bumper, could cause it to detach accidentally, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be invited to visit a Toyota dealership where they will be fitted with an updated replacement cover and have the rear bumper modified free of charge. At the same time, the company recommended that the defective covers be removed.

The company also said that Sequoia Hybrid 2023-2024 models manufactured between August 31, 2022 and July 23, 2024 will be recalled. The issue does not affect other Toyota or Lexus vehicles sold in the U.S., as they are equipped with a differently designed towbar cover or none at all. In addition to the U.S. market, the company is also recalling about 1,900 2023-2024 Sequoia Hybrid vehicles manufactured outside the U.S. that may have a similar defect.

Available in 2023, it features a hybrid system with a V6 gasoline engine and an electric motor, providing improved performance and fuel economy over previous generations. The Sequoia Hybrid offers a spacious interior with three rows of seats, advanced safety and comfort technologies, and high cross-country capability, making it a popular choice for families and outdoor enthusiasts.

The White House reacted to this by saying that power in Ukraine should be determined by its people and the constitution.
