Cuba and Bolivia may become BRICS partner countries from January 1, 2025, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.
He told Izvestia that Cuba and Bolivia are among the groups that received the invitation.
According to Ryabkov, negotiations on the inclusion of the invited countries in the group as partners have not yet been finalized. However, Russia has not received any refusals. The deputy minister emphasized that this is a big, serious prospect for the invited states. There are only days left before the relevant list is made public.
On October 23, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported that a list of 13 countries that could become BRICS partners had been agreed upon. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said on November 15 that Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia had become partners of the association. His colleague Andrei Rudenko added that Vietnam had also announced its desire to join BRICS as a partner.
Since January 1, 2024 BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) has expanded to include Egypt, Iran, UAE and Ethiopia. Saudi Arabia is in the association in the status of an invited country. Russia became the first chairman of the enlarged BRICS, in 2025 the presidency will go to Brazil.
Earlier it was reported that the world majority considers BRICS the best alternative to the West. Trump intends to impose 100% duties against the BRICS countries in case they create a single currency.
