According to preliminary data, the twin-engine boat Thanamarine 555 caught fire 50 meters from Mayton Island due to an engine failure that triggered a spark. The incident occurred at 05:00 Moscow time. Of the 33 passengers on board, the majority were Russians, also among them were 1 guide and 3 crew members. The fire occurred during mooring on the west side of the island.
Phuket Maritime Office director Natchapong Pranit said three tourists and a guide who were in the water, as well as two crew members, including the boat captain, were injured in the explosion.
