According to psychiatrist and psychotherapist Alexey Vilkov, the periodic desire to update one's image is a normal phenomenon. Such changes can be caused by the desire for novelty, the desire to change oneself or get new emotions.
However, if the desire for changes in appearance becomes constant, it may indicate more serious psychological problems. Vilkov noted that emotional instability, insecurity and anxiety can push a person to these actions. In such moments, a change of image serves as a kind of calming, but anxiety usually returns, which again causes the desire to change appearance.
One possible reason for frequent changes may be dysmorphophobia, a rare mental disorder in which a person does not accept his or her appearance. In such cases, a person may change hair color, clothing styles, and then move on to more radical measures such as cosmetic and plastic surgery in an attempt to eliminate non-existent defects.
According to the specialist “Evening Moscow”, even after performing plastic surgery, patients with this disorder often do not get satisfaction from the result and again seek to change their appearance, which can be harmful to health.
Earlier, the psychologist explained how to properly survive professional burnout. Also scientists from Sweden told how dogs affect people's health.
