The State Duma explained why pensions cannot be indexed according to needs

MP Bessarab: Changing indexation of pensions will lead to shortages in stores

Member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs Svetlana Bessarab commented on the impossibility of revising the approach to the indexation of pensions in the current economic conditions. She noted that in a market economy the principle of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” cannot be realized.

According to Bessarab, to ensure social protection of pensioners, it is necessary to rely on real contributions made by the able-bodied population. There are 75 million able-bodied citizens in Russia, who pay 22% of pension contributions, providing almost 43 million pensioners. This system allows to maintain the level of pensions at least at the level of inflation, thus providing real protection to pensioners.

Bessarab emphasized in a conversation with RT that every year the state seeks to increase the indexation of pensions so that the real income of pensioners corresponds to the inflation rate. That is, indexation of pensions according to needs will lead to the introduction of a planned economy, which, in her opinion, will cause deficits and other economic problems.

Earlier, social pensions in the Russian Federation from April 1 were indexed by 14.75%. Also earlier became known the grounds for the suspension of insurance pensions in Russia.
