"We are deeply saddened to report that on July 22, 2025 the president of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Irina Leonidovna Podnosova, passed away," the agency told RIA Novosti.
The Federation Council supported the appointment of Podnosovoj to the position of Chairman of the General Assembly of the Russian Federation on April 17, 2024. Her nomination was unanimously recommended by the High Qualification College of Judges. The position of Chairman of the Supreme Court was vacated after the death of Vyacheslav Lebedev, who had headed the court since 1991.
Iryna Podnosova in 1975 graduated from the law school of Zdanova Leningrad State University. Served as a judge since 1990, in 2020 took the position of head of the Supreme Court’s Economic Disputes Bench.
